BLCKTEC 430: When to Perform a Complete Drive Cycle

Purpose

To provide you with steps on how to identify if you need to perform a Drive Cycle while using the BLCKTEC 430.

Introduction

When there are Drive Cycle Monitors that indicate a Failing or Incomplete result when scanned with the BLCKTEC 430, a complete drive cycle must be completed. The following vehicle systems are considered as the Drive Cycle Monitor that is checked during a scan to perform a Complete Drive Cycle:

  • MIS - Misfire Monitor
  • FUE - Fuel System Monitor
  • CCM - Comprehensive Component Monitor
  • EVA - Evap System Monitor
  • 02S - Oxygen Sensor Monitor
  • HTR - Oxygen Sensor Heater Monitor
  • EGR - EGR System Monitor
  • CAT - Catalyst Monitor

These monitors are not directly shown, but you will know if there are errors within these monitors if a failing result shows after you perform a scan.

To know if you need to perform a drive cycle, follow the steps below:

Step 1 - Select Whole System.

After pairing the RepairSolutions2 app and the BLCKTEC 430, select 'Whole System' to open a by-module drop-down list of individual monitor options.

Step 2 - Wait until the app reads the data from your vehicle.

The app will read data from your vehicle, including the odometer.

Step 3 - Select 'Generate Report.'

After your vehicle's odometer is read by the app, select 'Generate Report.'

While generating the report, ensure your vehicle is turned to the 'ON' position, and your mobile phone is close to your BLCKTEC 430.

Note: your vehicle’s odometer mileage should automatically be recorded in the Odometer field.

Step 4 - View the 'Report Page.'

The 'Report Page' will appear after the mobile app is done generating reports. Do the following according to the scan results:

  • If the Scan Results show PASS, you do not need to perform a Complete Drive Cycle.
  • If the Scan Results show Trouble Code Results, you must perform a Complete Drive Cycle Procedure.

Note: If trouble codes are still present after a drive cycle, you need to troubleshoot the issue to have a PASS result after a scan.
